I like the Dianno albums as well. Don't get me wrong. But I don't think it would be realistic of anyone to claim that Dianno has a more powerful voice than Bruce, and nor can he hold a note anywhere near as long. I like the first two albums in a more punky kinda way to the Bruce albums.

Yes, I adore 'Infinite Dreams'! "It can't be all coincidence, too many things are evident..."

Actually, i can live with Paul Dianno. he was okay. Bruce is a huge improvement of course but I still like the first two albums, particularly "Killers".

Yes, Maiden is one of those rare groups who can rock artistically and professionally. There is nothing raw or unpolished about them at all. I like that.

'Infinite Dreams' also has some powerful note holding going on in it. I think its obvious that when Bruce first joined, they didn't really know what to do with his voice. Number of the Beast barely tests his vocal powers and seems to contain a lot of songs that Dianno could have sung. Its still a good album of course, just not much of a challenge for Bruce. From Piece of Mind onwards, they started exploring exactly what Bruce was capable of.

Its not just Bruce though, the whole band excel at what they do. The songs have quite complex melodies, rhythm changes and a lot going on. Other bands try to do these things, but the transition from one speed to another seems clumsy. Maiden make it work seemlessly, one rhythm blending into another. They are genius at work.

Oh gosh, I had not noticed that he doesn't look happy but I suppose you are probably right. And yeah, his voice was amazing back in the eighties. I used to nearly cream in my pants when Bruce would hold a note for like a minute, his voice rising and falling like ocean waves and always with perfect pitch and smooth transition. I think he really showed it off on the song 'Powerslave' at the end where he sang the line about 'slave to the power of death'. It blew my fourteen year old mind at the time!!

Rose

A beautiful rose stands tall in the rain
giving beauty with it's petals
but with its thorns pain
a beautiful rose stands alone in the rain

I'm not sure, but if you see him in recent videos, he looks kind of unhappy, like somethings happened to disturb him. I also think that maybe he hasn't been looking after his voice in recent years. He can still sing better than 99% of the vocalists in metal, but he is disappointing compared to his younger self. Hopefully, whatever upset him will be something he recovers from, and maybe now he's back, he will get his voice in shape again. Perhaps it will never be as good as the 'Peice of Mind' to 'Seventh Son' era (his peak in my opinion), but he may find a new peak.

I've heard the more recent albums because when I played the old ones for ~ JaqDHawkins, she couldn't resist getting the newer ones. We skipped the Blaze Bailey effort... ;)
